NANASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A 51-year-old man was killed in a crash involving an SUV near MetroCenter Monday.

The crash between a Yamaha motorcycle and an Audi SUV happened on Rosa L. Parks Boulevard at Athens Way around 5:30 p.m.

Metro police reported the crash claimed the life of the 51-year-old motorcyclist and efforts are ongoing to locate his next of kin.

The Audi Q7, driven by a 58-year-old Goodlettsville man, was making a left turn onto Athens Way from Rosa L. Parks Boulevard, according to Metro police.

The motorcyclist had been stopped at the Rosa L. Parks Boulevard red light at Vantage Way and when the light turned green, witnesses reported that the motorcycle accelerated aggressively toward Athens Way.

Despite the motorcyclist attempting evasive action, the motorcycle struck the passenger door of the Audi, according to Metro police.

Metro police said the motorcyclist became lodged underneath the vehicle and was pronounced dead on arrival at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

The preliminary contributing factor to this fatal crash appears to be excessive speed on the part of the motorcyclist, according to Metro police.
