This summer News 2 has reported on at least two cases of drunk drivers killing people. Families who lived through that loss gathered on Saturday. 

The event “Walk like MADD” was held on Saturday at Centennial Park in Nashville – hosted by the nationwide nonprofit, Mothers Against Drunk Driving. 

The goal of the nonprofit is to support those affected by impaired driving, prevent it, and strive for stricter policies. 

News 2 spoke to the mother of Nick Townsend – a Portland teen who was killed just three years ago by an impaired driver. 

“It’s such a preventable thing, there’s no reason for any of us to have to be out here walking for our loved ones. No one should be getting injured in impaired driving wreck and no one should be getting killed.” said Tanya Read, Towsend’s mother. 

The MADD group of Middle Tennessee surpassed its fundraising goal of 45 thousand – raising fifty thousand dollars.
