Driver charged with crashing into parked cars in East Nashville

News

A man has been charged with driving under the influence after Metro police said he crashed into multiple parked cars in East Nashville.

The cars were hit near Pennock and Douglas avenues early Tuesday morning.

Metro police reported 53-year-old James Sawyers made an improper turn and hit another vehicle head-on.

The victims followed Sawyers after he drove off from the crash and hit four parked cars before jumping out of the car and hiding in a yard along Pennock Avenue, according to Metro police.

According to an arrest warrant, officers found an open container of liquor on the floorboard of his vehicle.

He reportedly refused field sobriety tests.

Sawyers was booked into the Metro jail on 16 different charges, including driving under the influence, leaving the scene of a crash and driving on a revoked license.
