Driver charged after hitting, injuring Cookeville crossing guard

A man is facing charges after officials say he hit and injured a crossing guard in Cookeville on Thursday evening, according to Tennessee Highway Patrol officials. 

The incident happened near Northeast Elementary School on S. Old Kentucky Road just before 4 p.m.

According to THP,  Jennifer Priester, the crossing guard, was directing traffic from the middle turn lane on Old Kentucky Road near the front entrance of the school. 

Officials say the driver of a 2006 Ford Ranger, identified as 75-year-old Raymond Chambers, of Baxter, failed to maintain its lane of travel and began to travel in the turn lane, striking Priester. 

She was transported to Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She is expected to be okay. 

Baxter is now charged with Failure to Maintain Lane and Due Care.
