Dickson County mother, stepfather charged in death of 3-month-old

The mother and stepfather of a 3-month-old girl who died in February 2017 in Dickson County have been charged with the child’s death.

The Dickson County Sheriff’s Office reported deputies responded to a home on Claylick Road in White Bluff on Feb. 8, 2017 to investigate the death of a child in the care of her mother, Rachel Earps, and stepfather, Curtis Hall.

Once the investigation was complete, a grand jury returned indictments for reckless homicide, aggravated child abuse and neglect for Earps and Hall in the death of Layne Earps Rachford.

“She was only here with us for three months and I just want justice for my daughter,” said Layne’s father Matthew Rachford.

“Thinking all along that she passed with RSV (Respiratory syncytial virus) to find out that’s not how she went, I just want justice for her everything that she went through,” added Rachford.

Hall was arrested in April and is scheduled to appear in court on May 15.

Earps is being held on a $100,000 bond and is due in court on June 25.
