The number of cars stolen in Nashville is up more than 20 percent compared to last year.

Rebecca Beall shared with News 2 how she got her vehicle back after it drove right past her.

Beall said her car was stolen from the Petco parking lot in Antioch on November 3.

She said she was volunteering with Music City Animal Rescue and she was inside for an adoption event. She said she left her keys on a table and hours later — she came out to the parking lot to find her Jeep Gone.

She said 12 days later, she saw her car drive past her on Murfreesboro Road.

“I looked at the back windshield to see if it had my decal that says,  ‘Don’t shop, adopt’ and it did. So I turned my car around just to see…. because the plates were a different plate….and when I got closer my phone connected to the Bluetooth in the car. So I was sure it was my car, and I was on the phone with dispatch at that time.”

Metro police eventually stopped the car at this Mapco on Dickerson Pike and arrested Logan Farrar and Danielle Jeffery on theft charges.

Officers searched the jeep and they say they found meth and Farrar with a used needle in his pocket.  He faces additional charges.

Beall said when her car was returned, valuable supplies for the Music City Animal Rescue were stolen.

“Not only did we miss out on supplies, it was very difficult to arrange transport for animals through the week…and they’ve stolen from the community, the people who donate supplies for us to help these animals,” said Beall.
