Wilson County suspect captured after foot pursuit

An 18-year-old man who was wanted by authorities in Wilson County has been captured. 

Authorities said the suspect hit law enforcement vehicles before crashing his own vehicle and fleeing on foot in the area of Rome Pike Wednesday night.  

The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as Alain Benitez, of Smith County. He was added to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Top 10 Most Wanted list. 

The manhunt for Benitez continued Thursday morning until he was taken into custody after a foot pursuit off Carthage Highway. 

A resident on Cathage Highway in Lebanon said she called police after Benitez knocked on her back door and asked for water. 

Police arrested a short time later in a nearby wooded area. 

He was wanted in Smith County on aggravated assault charges.
