Teen charged with killing man in Lewisburg house fire

LEWISBURG, Tenn. (WKRN) - The Lewisburg police, the Lewisburg Fire Department, and the TBI have arrested 18-year-old Alyssa Hutt in the death of 74-year-old Malcolm Garrett.  

Garrett was found dead inside his burned home in Lewisburg late Wednesday night after a house fire was reported before midnight. When the Lewisburg Fire Department arrived on the scene, firefighters reported the home being engulfed in flames.  

Garrett’s remains were later identified as the sole victim of the fire. Upon further investigation, detectives from the Lewisburg Police Department determined the death and fire to be a homicide.  

Hutt was identified as a suspect and was located and interviewed and, after making statements, was charged with Criminal Homicide and Aggravated Robbery. The investigation is still ongoing, and detectives expect to make more arrests.  

Hutt was booked into the Marshall County Detention Facility. Her bond was set at $310,000.
