Rutherford Co. man charged with trafficking 14-year-old girl

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – A Rutherford County man is in custody after police say they caught him trafficking a 14-year-old girl. 

Investigators said 66-year-old Clifford Hawkins was charged with trafficking a 14-year-old runaway outside a Smyrna hotel. 

Police said the girl ran away from home and was reported missing on May 21. Hawkins met her at the Walmart in Smyrna and allegedly took her to three different locations in Rutherford County. 

According to a release, he allegedly took her to the Smyrna hotel and a resident called the police. Hawkins was still waiting in the parking lot. He was taken to the Sheriff’s department where he was questioned then arrested. 

Hawkins is being held on $33,000 bond at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center.
