A woman was charged with her second DUI after Metro police say she drove through barricades on Lower Broadway set up for CMA Fest.

Shernette Fowler, 35, is charged with assaulting an officer, evading arrest, resisting arrest, open container violation and DUI, to name a few.

Officers say she was stopped by an officer on Eighth Avenue and Broadway early Saturday morning just as the bars were closing. That officer reported Fowler was “driving erratically and crossed over the lane… several times.” He said she had three traffic cones lodged under her car because she drove through a police barricade at Fifth Avenue and Broadway.

The responding officers tried to get Fowler out of the car but said she initially refused.

According to her arrest affidavit, Fowler, “placed [the car] in reverse and revved the engine, then put it in drive and tried to pull forward but a second officer arrived in front of her.”

Metro police say Fowler was intoxicated, showing impairment on all 3 Standard Field Sobriety Testing.

Fowler was taken to General Hospital to have her blood drawn and as an officer was walking her into the hospital, he says she hit him in the face and later kicked him in the back. According to her arrest affidavit, she told the officer, “I will make it an assault now.”

Police reported finding a bottle of whiskey on the floorboard in her car.
