NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The man accused of stealing a Domino’s delivery driver’s vehicle in Donelson last week and crashing it into a semi tractor trailer told officers he had been drinking and needed the car to get home, a Metro police report states.

Phillip Arena, 40, was released from a hospital and booked Monday night into the Metro jail on charges including theft and driving under the influence.

According to an arrest affidavit, Metro police responded Thursday to the area of Donelson Pike and Elm Hill Pike where the delivery driver reported he had left his vehicle running in the parking lot and returned to find it missing.

A short time later, the paperwork states officers were called to a crash at Spence Lane and the I-40 west exit ramp where the stolen vehicle had crashed into a semi that was stopped at the intersection.

Arena reportedly told police that the delivery driver had given him permission to take the vehicle, but the driver disputed that.

The suspect was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment of crash-related injuries, authorities said.

Once Arena was booked into the jail, his bond was set at $12,500.
