A 20-year-old pharmacy technician in Madison told Metro police she stole hundreds of Percocets to give to her sick grandmother.

According to an arrest affidavit, an Asset Protection Manager at Walgreens on Gallatin Pike alerted investigators Thursday that a pharmacy technician, identified as Daija Woods, had taken 500 Percocets from the location while working there.

An officer watched video surveillance from April 9 and said it showed Woods take the remaining Percocets from two different stock bottles after filling valid prescriptions.

Police said Woods told them she was stealing the drugs for about a month to give them to her sick grandmother who could no longer get the medication through her insurance.

The cost of the pills stolen was estimated at $1,775, according to a court documents.

Woods was booked into the Metro jail on Thursday afternoon and bonded out a few hours later.

She is expected in court May 10.
