Two men are in custody after they allegedly stole card information from several people.
Metro fraud detectives said they arrested two men, one French, one Romanian after they used debit-type cards encoded with stolen information from innocent victims.
39-year-old Dragos Diaconu, who carried a French passport, and 35-year-old Daniel Gargarita, who carried a Romanian passport, were arrested for identity theft trafficking.
Police said First Tennessee Bank security footage provided the description of the suspects’ car, a Toyota Camry with a Delaware license plate after its ATMs were victimized by the scheme.
According to a release, Detective James Laster spotted the car late Friday night near a First Tennessee Bank branch on Abbott Martin Road.
Officials said the detective watched as Diaconu went to the ATM to draw money. After Diaconu got back in the car, Detective Laster pulled the car over and arrested both men.
Police said $5,224 in cash and 32 debit-type cards believed to be encoded with the stolen information was found inside the car.
The U.S. Secret Service and U.S. Homeland Security are assisting in the investigation.
