A Columbia man was gunned down in his front yard early Sunday morning, and so far, no one has been charged in connection to the crime.
William Glynee Rummage II was 31-years-old.
He had a few scrapes with the law over the years, but his friends and co-workers told News 2 he was a good guy.
“He was one of the best guys you could know,” friend Cameron Dudley said. “He’d give you the shirt off his back. [He was] a really good guy. I have much respect for him.”
According to friends and co-workers, Rummage was shot in the head in the driveway of his Woods Drive home.
“It was mind-blowing. Shocked us to the core to come out and see someone you have so much love and respect for laying on the ground dying,” Dudley said. “He was a good friend. A good guy.”
The victim’s second-cousin, Keith Rummage, told News 2 prior to the murder, Glynee Rummage was agitated about something with someone, but he isn’t sure what it was about or with whom.
“I saw a black car in the driveway,” Keith Rummage recalled. “I thought it was his ride. Me and him were up talking and he said he was fixing to leave. I asked him where he was going and he said, ‘I’ll tell you when I get back.'”
He continued, “It wasn’t minutes later, I heard arguments outside and then the gunshot.”
Dudley said he rushed to his friend’s side when he heard the gunshot.
“He was not able to talk at all when I first found him. I was on the phone with 911 and he was lying on the ground – had died – and I pumped on his chest and he had a big gasp of air and came back and he stayed alive long enough for the EMTs to here and work with him, and sometime after that he died,” Dudley said.
Rummage’s murder is the fourth in Columbia this year.
