Madelynne Moulton is breathing a sigh of relief.
She and other neighbors have been on edge for the past two weeks after a string of armed robberies.
“We’ve definitely been on high alert, peeping out the windows a little more than usual,” Moulton said.
Twenty-year-old Alexis Rutledge is now in police custody after police say she’s linked to four armed robberies between Feb. 20 and 21.
“It’s been scary,” Moulton said. “We recently installed security cameras on our front and back door.”
Police believe Rutledge robbed a pizza delivery driver on Feb. 20 outside Moulton’s home on Mitchell Road.
“He said ‘I just got robbed at gunpoint,'” Moulton remembers the delivery driver saying to her that night.
“A car just sped off in front of our house,” she said.
Police say the same night, the 20-year-old robbed a woman outside her home on McKennie Avenue and a cashier at Italia Pizza on Woodland Street.
Investigators believe she also robbed a man at gunpoint outside his home on Belle Forrest Avenue.
Rutledge’s arrest record goes back at least two years with Metro police, including arrests for vandalism, possession of drug paraphernalia, and other charges.
Despite the fear felt by Moulton and other neighbors, the homeowner says she still has compassion for someone so young.
“I really hope that she redeems herself,” Moulton said. “She’s still young. She still has a lot of life ahead of her.”
