Man injured, car riddled with bullet holes during I-40 drive-by shooting

A drive-by shooting on Interstate 40 left one man injured and a car riddled with bullet holes. 

It happened early Sunday morning near Briley Parkway. 

According to a witness, several people were in a black SUV that appeared to be shot more than a dozen times.  

Police told News 2 the victims reported leaving Limelight Entertainment Venue around 2:30 a.m. and while driving on I-40 East a silver Nissan Maxima or Altima pulled up beside them and two people opened fire.  

The victims reported that one of the suspects fired from outside of the sunroof. 

The victims called police from the Nashville Marriot hotel not far from the airport and said they didn’t know why they were targeted.   

The victim was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for a gunshot wound to his hand.
