Home burglaries, street robberies and car thefts are down in the area covered by the Metro police Madison precinct, while business burglaries are up and the number of homicides remains the same, according to recent crime statistics from the police department.
The data, which runs from January 1 through March 23 of both years, showed the 69-square miles covered by the Madison precinct, experienced a 20.7% decrease in violent and property crimes from 864 reported incidents in 2018 to 685 in 2019.
Robberies on the streets dropped about 27.6% from 29 in 2018 to 21 in 2019, while home burglaries were down nearly 10% from 51 to 46.
Car thefts also saw a decrease from 79 to 74, down about 6.3%.
The only category of crime that increased in the Madison precinct was commercial burglaries which were up about 78.6% from 14 in 2018 to 25 in 2019.
Homicides remained steady at two for both years.
