An Anderson County man was arrested on charges he had sexual activity with a girl in Florida under the age of 12 and got her pregnant.

David Cox, 55, is charged with engaging in sexual activity with a child under the age of 12 by a family member or custodial authority.

The Gilchrist County, Florida, Sheriff’s Office contacted the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office last November about a possible child sex abuse case in Florida. They said the suspect was living in Oliver Springs at the time and the act allegedly happened while Cox was visiting family in Florida.

The child became pregnant shortly after the alleged abuse. Once the baby was delivered in January, DNA samples from the infant and Cox were obtained and determined to be a parental match.

Cox was arrested on April 4 and held in Anderson County until he was extradited on April 14. He is now being held in Florida on $1 million bond.
