Metro Police say what started as a patrol for some of its officers — ended in the recovery of stolen guns, and the arrests of two young men.
In a release, Metro Police said officers were patrolling the area of Dowland Street and 25th Avenue North on Tuesday night when they saw a group of young men playing a game on a porch. They said those men ran away when they saw the officers.
A short time later, police saw two of them again.
Police took 20-year-old, Jamontez Johnson, and a 16-year-old into custody. The pair had been sitting in a parked, silver Ford Escape.
Metro police said they found three guns in the car, all hidden under the seats. Two pistols had been reported stolen.
They also found cocaine and marijuana packed in plastic baggies and a digital scale.
Johnson faces charges of cocaine possession, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, resisting arrest, and gun possession during the commission of a felony. The 16-year-old faces second offense handgun possession, marijuana possession, resisting arrest, and possession of drug paraphernalia; he will be charged in juvenile court.
Police say when Johnson was arrested, he had been free on bond for his alleged role in an armed robbery back in April 2017.
