Metro police have arrested the man they believe fatally shot Dontae Drew on Dickerson Pike in December, according to officials.
Drew, 18, was shot and killed on Dickerson Pike near Briley Parkway on Dec. 6, 2018.
The suspect in his killing, 19-year-old Demontez Johnson, was arrested by Metro Police in Fayetteville on Sunday night and charged with criminal homicide. He is being held at the Davidson County Jail in lieu of a $1 million dollar bond.
According to investigators, Drew and two friends met two men (one believed to be Johnson) near the intersection of Dickerson Pike and Broadmoor Drive to buy marijuana. The buyers allegedly used fake money to purchase the drugs and quickly fled after the deal.
Police say the sellers caught up to Drew and his friends as they approached Briley Parkway and opened fire into their Nissan Maxima.
Drew, the driver of the Maxima, was hit and killed.
Police identified Johnson as a suspect in the shooting and issued a warrant for his arrest on Dec. 18. He has been a fugitive for the last four months, officials say.
