Councilman John Cooper joins race for Mayor of Nashville

A new candidate has entered the race for Nashville Mayor. 

Councilman John Cooper confirmed to News 2 tonight that he’s running. 

He will challenge Mayor David Briley who is running for re-election. 

Candidates who have also entered the race for mayor include:

Three-term State Representative John Ray Clemmons, a Nashville attorney. 

Former Vanderbilt Law Professor and author Carol Swain. 

Harold Garoutte, retired Army Sergeant and owner of Southern Country Radio. 

The election takes place this year in August.
