Columbia community responds to violence with prayer

News

People in Columbia have noticed an uptick in violence with three murders since January. In response to those crimes, community members are responding with prayer.

“I know what prayer can do, if you continue to pray and be persistent, and have a prayer life.” said Pastor Christopher Taylor of New Life Church of God in Christ.

On Saturday, Taylor and other members of New Life Ministries hosted a “Pull Up and Pray” event – inviting community members to stop and pray with them.

“Our whole community is affected, so we want to make a difference.” said Shelley Taylor, First Lady of New Life Church of God in Christ.

She also said in addition to prayer with community members – they are also praying for the lives who have been personally touched by recent violent crimes.

“These are real people with real lives and so our hearts mourn for the victims as well as the perpetrators of various crimes.”

Ministry members held the event at the Cash Saver Grocery store and Walmart in Columbia.

New Life Ministries says today’s event is just the beginning of more outreach to come.
