NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Crews responded after Cigna HealthSpring in MetroCenter reportedly received a mailed letter marked “cyanide” on it Tuesday morning.
It happened at the building located in the 500 block of Great Circle Road.
According to a spokesman for Cigna, an employee discovered a suspicious substance in an envelope while opening mail.
As a precaution, some employees were evacuated from the building for a brief time. They have since been allowed back in.
A statement from Cigna says authorities inspected the site and determined there was no exposure of contaminants to employees. The company said it will continue to investigate the incident and that the preliminary investigation shows it was a commercially available product.
“We are fully cooperating with the investigation of the envelope and its origin, and the safety of our colleagues continues to be our top priority,” the statement said.
Police, the Nashville Fire Department and HAZMAT crews all responded to the scene.
