Car hit by train in East Nashville; Driver charged

A car was hit by a train in East Nashville early Wednesday morning. 

It happened around 3 a.m. on Scott Avenue near Douglas Avenue. 

Metro police told News 2 the woman driving told officers she was involved in a crash on the tracks prior to the train hitting her vehicle. 

She stepped away from the car and was not inside the vehicle when it was hit. 

She was not injured and later identified as 28-year-old Lauren Barter. 

Barter was detained for questioning and taken away from the scene of the crash. She has since been charged with driving under the influence. 

She reportedly blew a .209 during a breathalyzer test. 

A CSX spokesperson released a statement on the crash to News 2, which reads:

“Just after 4:00 a.m. this morning, a CSX train struck an unoccupied passenger vehicle that was on the tracks north of the Scott Street crossing in Nashville, TN. This train, which contained three locomotives and 121 rail cars, was traveling from Chicago to Nashville at the time of this incident. No injuries were reported.  CSX personnel are cooperating with the Nashville police, who are investigating this incident.”

No additional information was immediately released.
