Body wrapped in trash bags found by tugboat in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A death investigation is underway in Nashville after officials recovered a body found by a tugboat on the Cumberland River in West Nashville Monday.

According to police, the body was discovered around 2 p.m. by a tugboat operator near Basswood Avenue. The victim was wrapped in trash bags and appeared to have been in the water for a “significant amount of time.”

Police said the gender and race of the victim has not yet been determined.

An autopsy will be conducted this week.
