Belmont’s Rick Byrd is retiring after 33 seasons as head coach of the Bruins
The basketball coach will formally announce his retirement during a news conference Monday at 3 p.m.
Byrd leaves with 805 career victories, which puts him 12th all-time among NCAA Division 1 head coaches.
He led Belmont to eight NCAA Tournament appearances in the last 13 years.
University President Dr. Bob Fisher said. “Rick Byrd’s leadership is a point of great pride not just for our men’s basketball program or the athletics department, but for the entire university. I am deeply grateful for his life of service to Belmont University and his influence in shaping the lives of so many along the way. He’s simply the best!”
The University says a national search is underway for the next head basketball coach.
