A Belle Meade officer was injured in a head-on crash Monday morning.

The crash happened around 1:10 a.m. near the intersection of Harding Pike and Belle Meade Boulevard.

Metro police reported the officer was sitting in his patrol car, off the roadway when a vehicle coming from the opposite direction left its lane of travel and hit the marked car head-on.

The officer was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The injured officer was identified by Belle Meade Police Chief as Mark Hill.

The other driver refused medical treatment and took a field sobriety test at the scene.

Metro police determined he was sober and investigators said it appears he “simply fell asleep.”

No additional information was immediately released.
