The annual Battle of the Bands scheduled for Thursday evening has been canceled because of weather.

The marching bands from Auburn and Purdue were set to compete at Broadway and 1st Avenue in Nashville’s lower Broadway entertainment district. The annual Music City Bowl tradition attracts hundreds of people to the city.

Strong storms are expected to roll through Nashville this afternoon., bringing powerful wind gusts with the potential for 40 mph gusts.

Before the decision to cancel was made, Linda Ong interviewed members of the Auburn marching band.

The weather system should be out of the area by later tonight.

All Music City Bowl events Friday are expected to go on as scheduled.

The game, featuring the Auburn Tigers and Purdue Boilermakers kicks off at 12:30 Nissan Stadium  Friday.
