Investigators say a heat lamp used to keep a calf warm sparked a fire early Thursday morning that destroyed a Rutherford County barn.

Rutherford County Fire-Rescue said crews from several departments responded around 6:20 a.m. to a reported fire in the 3200 block of Halls Hill Pike.

When firefighters arrived, they said half of the barn was engulfed in flames.

Officials said the calf was killed. No human injuries were reported.
