Autopsy: 12-year-old Goodlettsville girl died of strangulation

GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – An autopsy released Thursday revealed the 12-year-old girl found dead inside her family’s Goodlettsville mobile home last month died as a result of strangulation.

Yhoana Arteaga was found unresponsive on her bedroom floor by family members on the evening of Aug. 10. Her family initiated CPR and called 911 but she had passed away.

According to the autopsy, Yhoana had multiple bruises on her forehead, right ear, behind her right ear, and ankle. Multiple abrasions were also found on her body. The report says there was also a faintly recognizable rectangular shaped imprint and patterned abrasions on her right cheek. The autopsy also shows the 12-year-old’s pants and underwear were stained with blood. A sexual assault kit was performed, but Metro police say it remains undetermined whether she was sexually assaulted.

At a press conference in mid-August, Sgt. David Kautzman said, “This is a horrible, brutal thing. I’ve never seen anything this brutal in my entire career. The police department is coming together like no case I’ve ever seen in my career.”

Metro police have also said Yhoana may have known her killer, but as of this report, no arrests have been made in the case,

Detectives from across multiple Metro departments are pursuing active leads. Laboratory analysis on evidence collected from the home is also continuing.
