An eighth-grader has been charged after a threat was made against Cheatham County Middle School, according to the sheriff.
The school reported Sunday it was made aware of the potential threat and that extra law enforcement officers would be on the property Monday.
The nature of the threat was not disclosed and the school was placed on a lockout on Monday.
Late Monday afternoon, the school district released a statement that said all regular school activities will proceed as planned Monday night and Tuesday.
It was not immediately known what charges the juvenile faces, but the district said, “appropriate legal action and school-related discipline are being taken.”
The district also reminded students that “any student making a threat will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
Additional information was not immediately released.
Students, parents, or community members who may know of an unsafe situation in one of Cheatham County schools are asked to contact school officials by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
