Eight children are recovering in the hospital after their church van overturned in a crash on Interstate-840 in Williamson County on Saturday, according to officials with the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

The crash happened near MM-7 during the heavy rainstorm on Saturday afternoon.

The van involved in the crash belongs to Dixie Hills Baptist Church in Bolivar, Tenn., which is near Memphis. According to church leaders, the students were returning from a conference in Chattanooga.

Twelve passengers were on-board, including the driver, 40-year-old Joshua D. Clark.

According to THP, Clark lost control of the vehicle due to an unspecified reason and ran off the roadway, striking the median where it flipped on its side.

“Easily this could’ve turned out a lot differently but by God’s grace he left all of us here, so reminded each of us last night and this morning that we have purpose,” said Joshua Clark.

Six juveniles were transported by ground to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. Two others were taken to TriStar Horizon.

The driver was not injured in the crash.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation. However, officials mentioned that weather could be a factor in the crash.

Church leaders said Clark hydroplaned just before the crash in an address to congregants on Sunday morning. They also said everyone hurt are expected to be okay. Watch the full address below:
