5 teens in custody after attempted break-in at Hendersonville gun store

HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Five teenagers are in custody after an attempted break-in at a Hendersonville gun store Thursday morning.

It happened at Guns and Leather on West Main Street just after 2 a.m.

Hendersonville police said the suspects, who are all teenagers between 14 and 18 years old, used something in an attempt to bash in the front window of the store but were unsuccessful.

“These are basically children committing very serious crimes,”  Lieutenant Jim Vaughn told News 2.

Police have been patrolling the area, following a rash of recent gun store break-ins and witnessed the suspects in the act.

“We’ve been on heightened alert in that area to make sure that does not happen and we were successful.”

After trying to break-in, the suspects fled in a get-away car. That’s when a police pursuit began. It ended when the teens crashed the car in Gallatin.

“Once they crashed the people inside took off running on foot we were able to capture three right away.”

Thanks to the help of the Gallatin Police Department, Sumner County Sheriff’s Department and the Tennessee Highway Patrol Aviation Unit, several hours later the other two suspects were apprehended.

Hendersonville police hope this sends a message that they will not tolerate crime.

“The city of Hendersonville will expend any kind of resources available in order to ensure that this type of crime doesn’t continue to happen. We are going to be persistent. We are going to do everything that we can do to make sure that anyone that comes to the city of Hendersonville to commit that type of crime, we are going to pursue them, we are going to arrest them and we are going to prosecute them,” Lt. Vaughn explained.

18-year-old Deangenet Parks was with the group that was apprehended. She faces a number of charges including attempted burglary, attempted theft under $1,000 and vandalism over $1,000.
