2 teens killed in Murfreesboro crash

Two teenagers were killed in a crash in Murfreesboro over the weekend.  

According to police, it happened around 6 p.m. Saturday in the 500 block of Fortress Boulevard when the 18-year-old driver of a 2005 GMC Sierra pickup truck traveled into the oncoming lanes of traffic, hitting a 2018 Nissan Titan.  

Police said the occupants of the Sierra, now identified as 18-year-old Eric King and a 17-year-old from Smyrna, were ejected and gravely injured.  

The 17-year-old passenger of the Sierra was taken to St. Thomas Rutherford where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not been released by police. King was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he later died.  

Both occupants of the Nissan were taken to Stonecrest Medical Center for treatment. The 46-year-old driver has since been released. His 42-year-old passenger remains hospitalized.  

The crash remains under investigation.
