2 children killed in Greene County house fire

Two children are dead following an early morning house fire in Greene County, according to Mosheim Volunteer Fire Department Chief Harold Williamson.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Department says 6-year-old Jace Long and 4-year-old Joshua Long were found dead in their bedroom. Jace was a kindergarten student at Mosheim Elementary School.

Chief Williamson tells News Channel 11 the mother and step-father were able to make it out of the house okay.

According to Greene County dispatch, the following departments responded to the scene:

  • Greeneville Fire Department
  • Town of Mosheim Fire Department
  • Mosheim Volunteer Fire Department
  • Midway Fire Department

Responders were able to put the fire out in less than 20 minutes, according to Chief Williamson. Crews are still on scene at this hour.

The state fire marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the fire.
