LEWISBURG, TENN. (WKRN) – One person died in an apartment fire in Lewisburg Saturday night.

It happened at the Summit Apartments of Lewisburg on Franklin Avenue around 10 p.m.

“I never think there would be a fire like that up here. I was up there in my room just now and they come down and told me that I got to go because they were evacuating the whole building,” said Michael Hargrove, a resident at the apartments.

Officials on the scene told News 2 the deceased victim was in a lower floor unit.

On Sunday, the company that owns the apartment complex, Carter Investment Management Group, identified the tenant as Norma Marcum. They released the following statement about her passing:

We are all devastated by the loss of Ms. Norma Marcum, who has been living at Summit Apartments for the last two years. We extend our sincere condolences to Ms. Marcum’s family and friends. She will be greatly missed by everyone in the  Lewisburg Summit apartment community. We have no further comments at this time as the cause of the fire is under investigation.”

The building has been cleared out because of the smoke and more than 140 were taken to a different location by bus.

No additional injuries were reported.

Fire officials say the state fire marshal and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation were called to the scene to investigate the fire.
