One person is in custody after police responded to a barricaded subject at a Smyrna home Monday morning.
It happened at a home on Tarrytown Drive, just off Almaville Road, not too far from Interstate 24. Almaville Road was closed for a short time to drivers.
Police responded to the home after receiving a 911 call requesting an ambulance. While on the phone, the dispatcher heard someone in the background saying, “Please put the gun down.”
As a precaution, Smyrna police and the SWAT team were notified.
Police said four children and a woman were inside the home at the time. They were unharmed
“That was our primary concern,” Sgt. Bobby Gibson said. “Anytime there is barricaded subject, that’s a dangerous situation, but with children inside the home that raises the level of concern quite a bit.”
According to police, the incident ended peacefully after they were able to make contact with the man inside the home. A pistol and a shotgun were found inside, police said.
Sgt. Gibson said the suspect may have some health issues and medications may have changed his thought process. He was taken to a local hospital.
“Everyone is safe, so there is no better outcome,” Gibson said.
Additional information was not released.
