A 26-year-old registered violent sex offender ordered to stay away from the Vanderbilt University campus earlier this month has been arrested for returning to the school, a police report states.
James David Williams, Jr. was booked Saturday into the Metro jail on a charge of aggravated criminal trespassing, which is a misdemeanor.
According to an arrest affidavit, Vanderbilt University police were advised around 3:30 p.m. of a man walking through campus toward the Veterans Hospital.
Vanderbilt police made contact with the man at the corner of 24th Avenue South and Highland Avenue.
Officers identified the man as Williams, who they described as a “registered violent sex offender.”
Police said he had been issued a criminal trespass warning on April 23 when he was located on campus charging his phone in a building.
Williams was taken into custody and was held on a $1,000 bond.
