Congratulations to students at Gallatin High School. They won the News 2 Food 2 Families high school competition. 

1600 students collected a staggering 81,314 food items, including canned and packaged foods.  That’s an average of 51 cans per student.

At a rally today, the band, the cheerleaders and the dance team turned out to celebrate their victory. 

Gallatin high school got a $1,000 check from Cornerstone Financial and bragging rights.   

This year’s competition among schools across the region broke the record. Sixty schools collected almost 360,000 pounds of food. That’s a first. All that food goes directly to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, which feeds hungry people.  

Special thanks for making the News 2 Food 2 Families Food Drive a success goes to both Cornerstone Financial Credit Union, which has donated the awards, and Crest Cadillac, which opened their doors as a collection site for people who want to drop off food but don’t have children in school.
