Meaghan Thomas

Meteorologist – Good Morning Nashville

Meaghan Thomas joined News 2 in July 2020. Her forecasts can be seen every morning from 4:30 to 7 a.m., 11 a.m., and whenever severe weather breaks.

Meaghan is originally from Johns Creek, Georgia, but is no stranger to Tennessee’s weather patterns. She has many memories, as a child, visiting her mom’s hometown of Shelbyville. Her uncle and cousins now live in Christiana and Murfreesboro. Tennessee is her home away from home.

In 2012, Meaghan earned her bachelor’s degree in Broadcast News and Geography from the University of Alabama. As an undergraduate, she became a member of the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association. She is also a certified storm spotter and storm chaser. As a student at Alabama, Meaghan experienced first-hand, the devastating tornado outbreak on April 27, 2011. This experience further reinforced her desire to learn more about atmospheric science. She likes to consider herself a true “science nerd.”

In 2014, Meaghan completed her master’s degree in Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State University. While attending MSU, she was a teaching assistant in the Department of Communications.

During graduate school, Meaghan also worked as a meteorologist at WCBI, the CBS affiliate, in Columbus, MS. She helped cover the April 28, 2014, tornado outbreak across Mississippi.

After leaving Mississippi she joined the ABC affiliate in Birmingham in 2014. She served the wonderful people of Central Alabama as their weekend and morning meteorologist at ABC 33/40 for six years covering everything from tornadoes to ice storms. When she wasn’t on TV, she worked at the University of Alabama as an Adjunct Professor teaching the Fundamentals of Electronic News.

Meaghan has also earned the prestigious Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Seal of Approval. Not only is she a meteorologist that can communicate the weather, but a meteorologist that really knows the science behind it.

Along with meteorology, Meaghan’s passions involve bringing awareness to the Hard of Hearing, Deaf & deaf communities! She proudly wears bi-lateral hearing aids and wants to encourage others that being different makes you special. You can learn more about her Children’s book & Non-Profit, “Heart of Hearing” at www.theheartofhearing.org. She also enjoys working out, loving on her Pomeranian, Daisy Diana and cheering for the Crimson Tide, but is also looking forward to returning to her roots to cheer on The Tennessee Vols!
