Digital Alert Desk Anchor
Laura Schweizer is an award-winning journalist and the Alert Desk Anchor on Good Morning Nashville. She joined the WKRN News 2 team in October of 2021.
Laura graduated from Illinois State University with a Bachelors in Broadcast Journalism but learned quickly the industry was moving in a digital direction. The Chicagoland native has a dynamic skill set developed in this new age of journalism and has taken her career from the mountains of Colorado to the beaches of Hawaii.
Moving to Music City from Honolulu, Hawaii, Laura joined News 2 as a previous digital journalist at KITV4 Island News. There, she reported on everything from volcanic eruptions to protests, COVID-19 to political scandals. Laura was even a finalist for Pacific Edge Magazine’s Social Media Business Impact of the Year award for her work at the station. Every evening, Laura hosted her own segment, Trending Tonight, on the 6 & 10 p.m. newscasts. She also hosted the station’s first digital segment, Hawaii’s Top Headlines, reaching tens of thousands of viewers daily.
Her career began in Southwest Colorado where she helped create and develop a digital media company covering local news and features – igniting her passion for adventure. She has been skydiving, whitewater rafting, paragliding, snowboarding, and more!
The city of Denver then called her name, where she went on to work for various media outlets including the city’s fashion publication, 303 Magazine, where Laura was invited to host multiple Denver Fashion Week events.
While news, adventure, and fashion may rank high on Laura’s list of interests, so does giving back. Coming to the Volunteer State, Laura has a history of doing just that — whether it’s prepping and providing food for the elderly or traveling to Tibet to develop clean water sources. Service is an important part of her life.
