Digital Executive Producer
My zeal for writing comes from my empathy for people. I’m one of five children – and a triplet at that. Growing up partly in Beijing, China, Colorado, and Alabama with a big family has given me a unique perspective on putting myself in other’s shoes. I want to listen to people’s stories and share them with the world. While all our stories may be different, I guarantee we are not entirely alone in how we’ve felt or responded under certain circumstances. Which is why I think producing the news is so important. Things happen to us all. It’s important to know how it may affect you and how to respond in similar situations– even if that’s just relating to a story on some level.
One of my proudest accomplishments in my 10+ year career is earning an Emmy award for a special public affairs report on crimes against children. I’ve been nominated for an Emmy seven times for different areas of news including breaking news, special reports, and weather reports. I’ve also won best TV Producer from the TN AP and best Public Affairs reporter from the KY AP.
I’m currently the Digital Executive Producer at WKRN. I work with the digital team on enterprise content and daily news articles. In my previous leadership roles at the station, I was a special projects producer while also producing the 6pm and late news executive producer while also producing the 10pm. Stepping into this digital role has been a rewarding experience. I love new challenges, and my thirst for learning is never quenched.
Before making my way to the Nashville market, I worked in Knoxville, Tennessee. There I spent a year as an editor and photographer. Then for three years I launched the hour-long 4 o’clock newscast honing my producing and writing skills. My first stop in my news career was in Bowling Green, Kentucky, where I wore several different hats including producer, editor, and multi-media journalist.
I graduated from Troy University with honors in a Bachelor of Science in Broadcast Journalism/Leadership minor in December 2009.
When I’m not at work, I’m hanging out with my wonderful husband and baby boy. We love the outdoors. We’re usually on the water – either fishing or kayaking. Any tips on where to explore next?
I’d love to hear from you! Send me your comments or story ideas at chuff@wkrn.com.
