New library planned for redesigned Bellevue Center

Nashville Mayor Karl Dean agreed late Monday to give the developer redesigning the Bellevue Center Mall off Highway 70 South $12 million in financing to build a new, 32,000 square foot library on site.

The library will be built in the portion of the mall that used to house department store Dillard's.

The mall is currently vacant, except for anchor stores Macy's and Sears, to make way for the redevelopment which will convert the mall into an open-air shopping facility with a new amphitheatre and green space.

The developer, FourSquare Properties based in California, is expected to break ground on stores by mid-2009.

The plan for the new library must still be approval by the Metro Council and the money must be used by December 2010.

Anchor stores Macy's and Sears will remain open through the reconstruction.
