FRANKLIN, Tenn. -

Franklin police are searching for a car thief who was caught on dash cam video August 24.

Authorities said a sergeant on patrol attempted to stop a car with no taillights around 3:25 a.m. in the area of Liberty Pike and Carothers Parkway.

The driver and passenger, however, fled from the car on foot and escaped.

Investigators determined the 2014 Ford Escape had been stolen from a driveway in the 1300 block of Tilton Drive sometime after 11 p.m. the night before on August 23.

They said a spare key to the vehicle was stolen two weeks prior during another burglary to a vehicle parked at the same house.

The driver, described as a while male wearing a dark shirt and light blue shorts, can be seen on dash cam video bailing from the car while it was in still in gear.

The passenger, who wasn't captured on video, was wearing a white T-shirt
