MT. JULIET, Tenn. -

A fire heavily damaged the Taco Bell at the Providence Marketplace in Mt. Juliet early Monday morning.

An employee reported the fire after arriving to the restaurant off Mt. Juliet Road and Interstate 40 around 6:30 a.m.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming out of the roof.

They found a small fire on the backside of the building and had to cut a hole in the roof because the flames were trapped in the ceiling.

The building sustained a lot of damage. There is also a hole in the wall of the drive-thru.

The fire chief told News 2 the cause of the fire, which began in the kitchen, is likely electrical.

The restaurant was not open when the fire sparked and no one was injured.

The Taco Bell has only been open for just over a year.
