NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A car fire led to the evacuation of the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Nashville early Sunday morning.

Officials said the fire began around 3 a.m. in the alley behind the hotel located at 611 Commerce St.

The car was parked directly next to the structure, causing flames to scorch the side of the building and send smoke up through an air vent to the fifth and sixth floors.

Multiple fire trucks and ambulances responded to the scene. They were able to extinguish the fire within five minutes.

Over 2,000 guests were cleared from 600 rooms after fire alarms sounded. Guests were able to return to their rooms around 4 a.m.

Rescue crews said it took about 15 minutes to evacuate the hotel as they went door-to-door, clearing hallways and making sure all stairwells were clear.

Other than smoke, the only real damage is to the back of the building.

Authorities are working to determine the cause of the blaze. No one was injured in the fire or the subsequent evacuation.

The hotel is back to operating normally.

Fire officials told News2 the building will undergo a routine inspection next week.
