Hot weather could slow attendance at Wilson County Fair

High temperatures in the 90s could threaten attendance totals at the Wilson County Fair this year.

Severe weather on Wednesday caused a four-year low of 6,072 people to attend the fair that day, compared to 32,492 on the same day last year.

As of Thursday night, about 264,000 people have been through the gates in 2014.

A record 589,229 people attended throughout in 2013.

On Friday fair-goers were flocking to about a dozen misting stations and air conditioned buildings to cool off.

David Tomlinson, along with sons Aaron and Adam, plan to sell and deliver about 3,500 bags of ice on Saturday.

“Nobody wants to come to the fair and drink hot drinks,” said Adam. “That's where we come in.”

The Wilson County Fair wraps up Saturday night.
