NEW JOHNSONVILLE, Tenn. -

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has charged a teacher in Humphreys County after she used a school-issued credit card to make personal purchases.

The TBI started investigating Heather Wardlaw, 40, in November of 2013. As an art and social studies teacher at Lakeview Elementary in New Johnsonville, Wardlaw bought nearly $9,000 worth of items including alcohol, an iPad and clothes at Walmart using the school's credit card.

She also took more than $2,500 from an account belonging to an after-school basketball program.

On Monday, a grand jury in Humphreys County returned an indictment charging Wardlaw with one count of theft over $10,000.

She surrendered at the Humphreys County jail Thursday and was later released after posting $10,000 bond.
