Young child among 2 shot near downtown Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A five-year-old boy was one of two people injured in a shooting Monday night just south of downtown Nashville.

Metro police said the boy, D'Von McGhee, and Marquisha Taylor, 25, were caught in the middle of a shootout in the 600 block of Cannon Street off Lafayette Street at the JC Napier homes around 8:40 p.m.

Both were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non-critical injuries.

Police told News 2 the child was either grazed by a bullet or shrapnel.

Officers on the scene told News 2 the incident began when four men arrived to the area in a silver four-door car.

People were already gathered outside and a conversation began, resulting in gunfire.

The men, described as black males, fled the scene. A suspect description was not immediately known.

The investigation is ongoing.
