Ohio Woman Forgives Son's Killer, Hopes For Parole

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBUS, Ohio - An Ohio woman says she has forgiven her son’s killer and now she is hoping he becomes a free man.

Donna Foster’s son, James Foster III, was murdered in 1991. James’ murderer, Roosevelt Barron, received a sentence of 15 year to life, in prison.

Now, Foster is teaming up with Columbus-based E.P.I.D.E.M.E.K to urge the parole board, to grant Barron’s release.

“I forgave the guy that murdered my son, because he asked me to,” she said. “I felt that there is a need for healing and there is a need for forgiving in the world.”

E.P.I.D.E.M.E.K is a non-profit group that seeks justice for inmates.

Timothy Richardson, the group’s executive director, said Barron’s case is a prime example of the rehabilitation process working.

“This young man has shown accountability,” Richardson said. “He has shown remorse, which you see right here, and how do you gauge change, if you don’t allow this man to get out here to show he’s changed?”

Barron, who committed his crime at the age of 16, has since married.

Shannon Barron, his wife, also believes the time is right, for his release.

“He has always been accountable for what he had done,” she said. “He is not the same person that he used to be and I am here to tell you that he is just a wonderful man.”

Roosevelt Barron’s next hearing, before the parole board, is scheduled for September.
